A Convo With Non-Christians

While we are going about our daily business we are going to have opportunity to engage fellow Christians and those who do not know the Lord. Those who are not in the Lord, or non-Christians, are inherently going to have difficulty with the things of God.

The natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God.

The scriptural things we have available to engage non-Christians with, are limited in the sense of content that is effective.

Can we talk about the scriptures to non-Christians? Sure we can. Yet, if we do not bring the Gospel to the conversation at some point, we are not setting them up for success.

The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, And he who wins souls is wise. - Proverbs 11:30 NKJV

Before Understanding... Salvation

Topics such as the scriptures, history, current events, religion, politics, science, etc. are fantastic mechanisms for engaging and raising curiosity but until the Gospel is offered, there is no intimate engagement of the Spirit and the unsaved person.

Having read the bible or having general biblical knowledge is not what connects the unsaved with the living God of the bible. (Before I get into too much trouble here, reading the bible and having biblical knowledge is how we learn about the Lord but only after salvation. Moving on...) We even see Nicodemus, who was a bible scholar, not understanding salvation until given the Gospel.

Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.
... Nicodemus answered and said to Him, "How can these things be?" Jesus answered and said to him, "Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things? - John 3:5, 9-10 NKJV

Until Nicodemus, the disciples, you, me and anyone else, confess and believe Jesus died for our sins and that God raised him from the dead, the ways of God are impossible to understand. Not hard to understand. Impossible!

But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. - 1 Corinthians 2:14 NKJV

Say What Needs To Be Said

In light of this reality, let's be sure to understand what the Gospel is, become expert at delivering it and make it a regular part of our daily conversation.

The Gospel
For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, - 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 NKJV
If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. - Romans 10:9 NLT

There's no need to add in confusing Christian jargon and bible references. Just say it. Get comfortable saying it. Be rock solid in understanding that you are planting and watering. You're delivering the good news. The Holy Spirit will do the rest.

Take Action!

Does every conversation with non-Christians have to be about the Gospel?
Not at all. Building trust through your good works and praying for people are actions that work together with delivering the Gospel. Use these tools. Take every opportunity for their salvation.
Then He said to them, "The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest. - Luke 10:2 NKJV
Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven. - Matthew 5:16 NASB
